Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – A recent report in SN (Jun 27) on American sanctions for drug trafficking (in USA) is biased. I checked with DEA. The report specifically mentioned fentanyl. Guyana is not now nor ever tied with fentanyl. The USA is sending a strong message about fentanyl to China and Mexico and others with which the drug is connected. Other reports on drug trafficking mentioned Guyana.
And the report from secretary Rubio on fentanyl made no specific references to Guyana or Guyanese. The SN report injected the names of Guyanese.
On sanctions, the Mohamed’s were and are not sanctioned for drugs or fentanyl. They are sanctioned for not paying taxes to the Guyana government. No one associated with Mohamed’s is sanctioned. As the American Ambassador stated, one can only be sanctioned if one conducts business with the Mohamed’s. Associating with them or running as a candidate with them or signing their nomination forms or voting for them will not lead to sanctions. The Americans historically have not interfered in elections on sanctions. Guyanese can freely associate with the Mohamed’s.
The PPP is fearful of the support of Azruddin and as such are driving fear in the population not to support WIN. The fact is Azruddin is very popular on the ground including in the PPP base.
Yours truly,
Danny Ramnarine
