‘We must not do anything to risk partnership with U.S.’ – Pres. Ali

Kaieteur News – President Irfaan Ali on Friday evening delivered a passionate address emphasizing the role the United States of America (U.S.) plays in Guyana’s development.
The Guyanese Head-of-State was at the time speaking at an event hosted by the United States Embassy in Guyana to commemorate America’s 249th Independence.
The event was hosted at U.S. Ambassador Nicole Theriot’s residence.
He said, “Guyana values a strategic partnership between our countries and welcome the continued commitment of the United States to remain engaged in implementation and execution of our bilateral cooperation.”
He reflected on the recent visit by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Guyana, which he said underscored the mighty interest of Guyana and the U.S. in maintaining and keeping bilateral relations.
Further he stated, “We want to let you know that we do not take friendship and the partnership that we’ve built over the last five years… like a lot of work has gone into building these partnerships, and as a country, we must ensure we do nothing to risk this partnership. We must do nothing that will put these partnerships that we have worked so hard to develop at risk.”
President Ali underscored that Guyana values the strategic partnership between the two countries and welcomed the continued commitment of the United States to remain engaged in implementation and execution of bilateral cooperation agenda.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Theriot also spoke of the U.S.’s cooperation with Guyana and pointed to military & security cooperation with Guyana emphasizing that it is the strongest it has ever been.
“Our military-to-military partnership spans training, exchanges, and acquisitions in key national security areas, such as our joint development of coastal radar capability for the GDF Coast Guard…” the ambassador said.
She continued, “This year we’ve expanded our law enforcement partnership as well, with knowledge exchanges and joint activities involving the NYPD, FBI, & DEA working hand-in-hand with the GDF, GPF, CANU, and SOCU.”
