Law and order are getting weaker
Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – If the Ministry of Home Affairs is unable to keep our Ministers safe, then the safety of the ordinary citizen is also at risk. A sitting Minister should not have to fear for his and his family’s personal safety. The security apparatus and their knowledge of what is going on in the country should be easily achieved in our close-knit and small country. The GFS, the GPF and the Ministry of Home Affairs must show that they are competent and quick to resolve these serious security matters.
The slowness of the investigations and their slow response does not build confidence in foreign investors to place more foreign investment into the country. It must be clear to everyone, including those outside of Guyana, that the government has control over the country and that it can easily maintain law and order within our cities and communities. Without the assurance of safety for the common man, there will be limited investment in the country.
It is time for the criminal activity and gun use to be brought under control. The level of homicide is still unacceptably high. As for the Minister and his family, may they remain safe. The Ministry of Home Affairs needs to get its act together. We have also had an attack on the President that was barely thwarted. These threats must be stopped before they are put into action!
