Eli Hazel completes run in recognition of fathers

Kaieteur Sports – Eli Hazel a Physical fitness instructor, community and Sports activists and sports organizer recently completed a run around the town of New Amsterdam in recognition of fathers.

Hazel, of the Unity for the Nation fame completed the run being accompanied by his grandchildren who were on bicycles.

Hazel and his grandchildren set out on their journey around 06:00hrs. The run began from Lot 40 Stanleytown, proceed through No 41 Scheme, through Vryheid into Angoy’s Avenue, around Tucber Park, then along Winkle Road, into Garrison Road along NATI and The National Psychiatric Hospital and The Burnham Park into Esplanade Road, enter Strand (Water Street) through New Amsterdam along Stanleytown around Tacama Turn into Main Street and concluded at its place of origin. The run took about 2 hrs.

Hazel, is a qualified Physical Fitness Instructor. He is the holder of a Certificate from the British Sports Trust Harvard Community Sports Leaders Course which was held by the British High Commission. The course dealt with Sports Management, Marketing, Organizing, Coaching and Discipline in Sports among other areas. He is the founder of the Unity for the Nation Group in New Amsterdam, Berbice.
He said that the run was to show appreciation for fathers.

In a brief chat with the media, he reiterated that fathers and men in general must not only be seen in a bad light. But they are some good men around. He said that there are many men who spread love and can be seen as role models.

Using his Unity for the Nation platform, he reemphasized that Unity and Leadership is needed in Guyana now more than ever.

The man said that he felt satisfied that he completed the journey. He felt that it was something fitting to do, because of the significance of the occasion. Doing the activity at this time, show the significance of fathers.

Over the years Hazel has been organizing a number of community and sporting and other events across Berbice.

One of his highlights was doing a shackle walk in chains in remembrance of slavery. Other events include runs, walks, jogs, cycling, speeches, spelling, physical fitness, in recognition of mothers, fathers, youths, the elderly, unity, health, good manners, peace and other initiatives.
