Kaieteur Sports – On this Olympic Day 2025, Archery Guyana proudly stands with the I.O.C. the Global Olympic Movement in issuing an important question to all Guyanese. Let’s Move?
In a world facing growing challenges of inactivity, isolation, and declining mental and physical health, sport remains one of our greatest tools for unity, strength and resilience.
This year, under the International Olympic Committee’s theme, “Let’s Move?”, we invite every Guyanese citizen, from the coastland to the hinterland, over all 83000 square miles and even those in offshore in Guyana’s economic zone, to rediscover the joy, energy, and connection that movement and sport can bring.
President of the National Federation, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon states; “Whether you are young or old, able-bodied or differently abled, whether you’ve held an arrow and bow or never stepped onto a field… Today is your day to move. Today is your DAY #1. The first day you can say to yourself I’ll take one extra step, one deep breath, one stretch, one arm rotation, it will be YOUR moment for action. Should you have the privilege of tomorrow, you can be proud of yourself and double the movements of today.”
Let us remind ourselves and each other that movement is not just physical, it is mental, emotional, and communal. Movement is resistance. Movement is progress. Movement is health. And movement is healing.
The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana urges:
Our children: Run, climb, swing, play, dream boldly.
Our elderly: Stretch, breathe, chat, stay connected.
Our communities: Support each other in all things to keep moving.
Our leaders: Open channels for us to have in clean safe active spaces for all.
Our athletes: Lead with action, determination, do the right thing. Inspire with heart.
Let this Olympic Day 2025 spark a national shift for a Guyana where every village, every region, every person moves forward together. Let us not be counted among the silent statistics of inactivity and disconnection. Let us be known as a nation that rises, aims, and moves with purpose. Let’s Move?
From the archery range to the open road, from the creeks to the savannah— Let’s Move, Guyana. Together, for joy, for health, For each other.
In this regard, all are invited to come out today, Olympic Day, June 23, 2025 at 5:15pm to the Kingston Seawall with your comfortable exercise shoes and favourite team jersey or tee shirt and bring a flag if you can. Let’s Move?
