Three arrested for double murder at New Star Backdam

Kaieteur News – The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said on Saturday that they have arrested three persons in connection with the murders of 24-year-old Mark Thomas and Wendy James, which occurred on Monday at New Star Backdam, North West District (NWD), Region One.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on June 16, 2025, at New Star Backdam, but both Thomas and James are residents of Barama River, Baramita, North West District.

It was reported that between June 16 and 19, 2025, ranks from the Regional Division executed a thorough search of the New Star Backdam area following the suspects’ flight from their residences after committing the act.

The police disclosed that the suspects involved in the case are two males and a female.

“All three suspects were successfully apprehended in various hiding spots within the Backdam region. They have undergone video and audio interviews, and witnesses have provided written statements confirming the suspects’ involvement in the acts,” the police said.

Not revealing the manner in which Thomas and James were killed, the police said their post-mortem examinations will be conducted on Monday at Port Kaituma.
