Kaieteur News – Dem boys seh is one thing to do yuh wuk and get reprimanded, but is a whole next level when yuh merely shake a man hand and next thing yuh know—transfer letter pun yuh desk. Just so! Like manners now become a crime in dis place.

Dem boys seh is a real upside-down world we living in. A lil civil gesture, a simple show of decency—BAM! Imagine if de man had give a lil hug or pat on de back. Dem boys sure he woulda been frog-marched straight to Camp Street. De charge? “Overfriendliness with intent to disarm suspicion!”

Wha kinda country is dis? Yuh smile too long, dem think yuh planning a coup. Yuh frown, dem seh yuh opposing de development. Yuh wave, dem want to know who yuh signaling. Yuh remain silent, dem say yuh being secretive. But shake somebody hand? Nah man, that is treasonous courtesy.

Is like we living in a place where decency is now a security risk. Dem boys seh we better start carrying disclaimer cards: “This handshake is purely social and not an endorsement of any political, criminal, or culinary agenda.”

But wait—dem boys hear something sweeter than tamarind ball. Come September 1st, some of we high-flying, loud-talking politicians might be transferred too—not to another ministry, but to another jurisdiction. And guess who waiting fuh dem? Big, bad Trump—ready to roll out de red carpet and hand over some designer orange jumpsuits.

Dem boys seh one or two of dem already practicing dey “I don’t recall” speech and brushing up pun dey prison lingo. One man even start training heself to sleep wid one eye open and bathe in cold water. Just in case.

Dis is Guyana, people. Where a handshake could cost yuh career—but corruption? That does get a round of applause and a national award.

Dem boys seh we got to do better. Or at least, stop shaking hands. Try fist bump. Less dangerous.
