Govt. to spend $193M more on Mahaicony Fire Station project
Kaieteur Sports- Having signed a $164 million contract to construct a fire station at Mahaicony, Region Five, the Ministry of Home Affairs is looking to spend approximately $193 million more to complete the building.
At the recent opening of tenders at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board, 17 contractors submitted bids. They are: Kawal Ramdeen General Construction & Office Furnishing – $ 194,121,841; VI Enterprise – $ 260,948,436; Singh & Son Construction – $217,003,725; KP Engineering – $173,248,183; Professional Build Experts – $228,939,826; A. Alli Construction – $200,852,841; Solid Rock Infrastructure – $ 237,162,244; Dundas Construction Inc. (Form of Tender Page not completed and signed); CAJ Construction Firm – $126,955,975; Urban Edge Builders Inc. – $239,482,741; Blue Print Builders Inc. – $235,758,251; Truck Smart (Form of Tender Page not completed and signed); GD’s Construction & Supplies – $180,715,287; Sheriff Construction Inc. – $245,429,585; Green Plains Enterprise (Former Tender Page not completed and signed); BM Property Investments Inc. – $198,891,238; and Prostruct Engineering GY – $335,529,510.
The project is estimated to cost $193,568,470.
Kaieteur News reported that in December 2024, Permanent Secretary Mr. Andre Ally signed a $164,464,666 contract to KNV Designs, Construction, and Supplies to construct the Mahaicony Fire Station.
According to the ministry, this project is aimed at enhancing public safety and improve operational efficiency and that it underscores the government’s commitment to advancing critical infrastructure and fostering development across Guyana.
This publication understands that the fire station is set to benefit the community and surrounding areas since it would improve the response time to fires at Mahaicony and neighbouring communities.
Currently, the closest fire stations supporting the Mahaicony area come from Mahaica, East Coast Demerara and Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice (WCB).
