– St. Barnabas’ Raheem Franklyn, New Amsterdam’s Abigail Jairam shine in Male/Female categories
Kaieteur Sports- The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) wrapped up successful tournament this past weekend at the David Rose Special School, with a number of huge performances by some of the country’s most talented special needs kids.
Some 19 Special Education Needs students from St. Barnabas Special School, David Rose Special School, Linden SEN Centre, Diamond Special School and New Amsterdam Special Needs did battle as they sought to show their skills on the chess board.

Trophies and medals were awarded to the top two participants from each school and the overall best male and female of the competition. The tournament was supported by the Special Education Needs Unit of the Ministry of Education.
Among the top prize winners of the Special Education Needs (SEN) Chess Tournament, the Best male award went to Raheem Franklyn of St. Barnabas Special School, while the Best female Award was earned by Abigail Jairam who represented the New Amsterdam Special Needs School with much success.
Anaya Lall, former deaf U-14 and U16 (2023) Girls Chess Champion, was present to hand out the respective winning trophies to this year’s winners.
