Kaieteur News- A Sophia Squatting Area, resident who allegedly assaulted a policeman was on Monday slapped with 10 charges when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Shamar Williams was arraigned before Magistrate Fabayo Azore where the charges of assault committed on a police constable were read to him. Williams was observed in a viral video on social media assaulting a rank of the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
The charges include: assault causing actual bodily harm to which he pleaded not guilty and was placed on $15,000 bail, damage to property, he pleaded not guilty, and was placed on $10,000 bail. He was also charged with assault of a peace officer with intent to resist lawful arrest.
Williams was remanded to prison on this charge. This matter was adjourned until June 23, 2025. He later appeared before Magistrate Shivani Lalaram also at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where the following traffic related charges were read to him: Unlicensed Driver, he was found guilty, and fined $30,000 or 6 weeks imprisonment. On the charge of Failure to Confirm to Sign, he was found guilty, and fined $20,000 or 4 weeks imprisonment, on the charge of Failure to Wear Safety Helmet, he was found guilty, and fined $10,000 or 2 weeks imprisonment.
On the charge of Breach of One-Way Street, he was found guilty, and fined $20,000 or 4 weeks imprisonment, for the Uninsured Motor Vehicle, he was found guilty, and fined $30,000 or 6 weeks imprisonment, on the charge of Unlicensed Motor Vehicle, he was found guilty, and fined $20,000 or 4 weeks imprisonment.
Williams was also charged for Uncertified Motor Vehicle, he was found guilty, and fined $25,000 or 5 weeks imprisonment, Maintenance of Motor vehicle, he was found guilty, and fined $20,000 or 4 weeks imprisonment, Obscured Rear ID Mark, he was found guilty, and fined $150,000 or 30 weeks imprisonment and for Failure to have Front ID Mark, he pleaded not guilty, and was placed on $10,000 bail.
