Kaieteur News- The University of Guyana (UG) has extended the application deadline for prospective students for programmes that are still available.
The university said it has received the largest number of applications since the implementation of government-funded tuition. It said following several requests by students and other stakeholders, the application portal has been reopened for the academic year 2025/2026 for selective programmes that are still available. The portal will be open from Friday, May 30 to midnight on Monday, June 2, 2025.

“Given that the most competitive programmes are already oversubscribed by several hundred students, only specific programmes will be reopened for new applicants during this short period,” UG said.
The application process for new students opened on April 1, 2025, and closed on May 16, 2025. Applicants who already submitted applications are asked to note that responses will be posted from the second week in June through August 2025.
However, the application process for continuing students will open on June 16, 2025, and will run until August 1, 2025.
The university relayed that orientation for the new academic year will be held around August 25, 2025. New applicants and continuing students have been urged to keep checking their emails and SRMS accounts continuously for updates to avoid delays in accepting offers.
“This year, prospective students will have a two-week window to accept the place offered due to the high application rate. Persons are also urged to check to ensure that they have fully completed the application process, as there is a high number of initiated but incomplete applications in addition to the high number of those already submitted,” UG added.
UG highlighted that information on all course/programme offerings, application processes, and other relevant details has been, and will continue to be communicated via all the university’s official channels. These official communication channels are the university’s website and the Student Records Management System (SRMS). The university will also issue official notices, press statements, and advertisements via its media partners.
“CSEC students writing exams this year were encouraged to apply for admission pending their examination results and indicate to CXC that they wish to have their results shared with the university directly by CXC to save time. Some programmes will allow provisional acceptance pending receipt of grades. For more information on the application process, admission requirements, and all other details relating to studying at the University of Guyana, please visit: https://uog.edu.gy/,” they said.
The university said further, that prospective students applying to the Turkeyen Campus can use https://turkeyenonline.uog.edu.gy/srms/student/prospective/application/login.php to see the programmes that are currently open for new applicants. While prospective students applying to the Berbice Campus can use https://tainonline.uog.edu.gy/srms/student/prospective/application/login.php see the programmes currently open for new applicants.
