Kaieteur News- Two men were arrested on Monday in connection with a marijuana bust that took place along the Cove and John Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
According to a report from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), ranks of the Cove and John Police Station were conducting an intelligence-led operation which led to the discovery of 4,040 grams (8.9 pounds) of marijuana.
“During the operation, the ranks observed a black Fielder wagon vehicle bearing registration plate PAH 4620 parked on the southern side of the road with two males, later identified as a 23-year-old taxi driver of Paradise, WCB, and a 34-year-old construction worker of Number 9 Village, WCB,” police said.
Police disclosed that the vehicle was searched in the presence of the two persons. “Inside the trunk of the vehicle, a black plastic bag containing three large wrapped parcels with leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis was discovered.”
The two men were made aware of the allegation, cautioned and arrested. They were then taken to the Cove and John Police Station where the marijuana was weighed. The vehicle they were travelling in was also taken to the police station.
The men are currently in custody.
