Dear Editor,
Nicolás Maduro’s reckless attempt to stage elections in Guyana’s sovereign Essequibo region is not only illegal. It is delusional.
The International Court of Justice has already issued a clear directive: Venezuela has no claim. Yet, Maduro continues his charade, clinging to a fantasy that defies both fact and law. The global community, regional leaders, and every serious international institution recognise what history and justice have consistently affirmed: Essequibo is Guyanese.
This move is not just baseless. It is dangerous. It undermines international law, provokes regional instability, and insults the intelligence of both nations. Maduro’s posturing seems bent on portraying his failure to be a transformational leader. But let us be clear:
To Maduro: Essequibo is not yours. It never was, and it never will.
To the world: Stand firm. Essequibo is part of Guyana, full stop.
Maduro’s delusion must be met with resolve, resistance, and rebuke since he is detached from reality.
Sincerely,
Dr. Marcel Hutson.
