Kaieteur News- Dem boys seh America now finding out how exciting politics does be when yuh living on de edge. The House of Representatives pass a Bill by one vote and de whole place light up like it was fireworks night. But Guyana was de pioneer in one-vote politics long before CNN even learn fuh count.
Fuh more than ten years now, Guyanese government been operating wid a one-seat majority. And yuh better believe all dem elected members of the ruling party had to show up. Dem boys seh even if yuh had dengue, yuh had fuh drag yuhself to Parliament once dem calling a vote. Fever or no fever, yuh had fuh raise yuh hand.
Dem boys remember one time when one MP nearly miss Parliament. He get stuck in traffic near Stabroek, and dem had to send a police escort and a cold coconut water fuh revive he. He vote get more protection than gold shipment.
But de beauty of de one-seat majority is how it does mek everybody sharp. Yuh don’t miss Parliament. Yuh don’t sleep late. Yuh don’t ketch flu. And yuh definitely don’t vex de Whip.
Yet, dem boys seh, despite de fragile numbers, de government does behave like dem get a tsunami of support. Big chest, loud talk, and bulldozer attitude. One vote majority, but whole parliament does feel like one-party state. Opposition coulda stay home and play dominoes—once dem see all government MPs present, dem know de battle done before it start.
Dem boys seh is one-seat majority but plenty-seat arrogance. Is like man wid one belt hole telling people he own de whole store. Every vote is a heart attack, but dem ruling boys still carrying on like is a coronation.
Guyana teach de world one thing: yuh don’t need nuff numbers fuh rule, just nuff nerve.
And always gat a spare MP in yuh back pocket.
Talk half. Leff half.
