Kaieteur News- A 24-year-old miner was remanded, on Tuesday, to prison for the murder of 23-year-old Ricky Edwin of Bamboo Creek Village, North Pakaraimas, Region Eight.
Edwin was killed on May 13, 2025 at Bamboo Creek Village.
Denivoudo Luis also known as ‘Delon’ of Bamboo Creek Village, North Pakaraimas, Region Eight appeared at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court via Zoom to answer the murder charge.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge. He is scheduled to return to court on August 26, 2025.
Kaieteur News reported that Edwin was fatally stabbed on May 13 between 18:00h and 19:00h, after defending his partially blind 20-year-old brother during a confrontation with Luis.
The police had reported that moments before the incident, Edwin and his younger brother, Nathan Edwin, were reportedly drinking alcohol at the side of the road, when Lewis, who was intoxicated, joined them.
“About 17:30hrs, the suspect began to insult Nathan, who is blind from his right eye and wore a sunglasses (dark shades). The suspect subsequently took off Nathan’s sunglasses and broke it,” police said in its report.
Edwin intervened and pushed Lewis, who then cursed the brothers, and left in the direction of his residence, about half a mile away.
The brothers then proceeded to Nathan’s home, where they continued drinking and stood in the unfenced yard. During that time, Lewis reportedly returned, walked up to the brothers, and continued cursing.
“They then had an exchange of words, and suddenly the suspect drew a small knife about four inches in length from his right-side pants pocket, walked up to the now deceased, and fired three stabs at him,” police stated.
Edwin sustained stab wounds to the middle of his chest, left abdomen and left buttocks area. The younger brother, scared for his life, ran for safety.
Despite being stabbed, Edwin ran off in the western direction of the yard, where he subsequently fell to the ground face down and became motionless.
“The suspect ran out of the yard and made good his escape in an unknown direction,” police stated.
Forty-six-year-old Bridget Edwin, mother of the decided raised an alarm and reported the matter to the police.
