Kaieteur News- As soon as a man get accuse of something in Guyana—whether is tiefing, lying, cheating, or simply minding he own business—suddenly every man, woman and cat tun expert witness. Dem boys seh de accusation does barely hit social media when all kinda people does crawl out like cockroach when light come on.
“Me know he since primary school. He always been sneaky,” one cousin-cousin seh. “Is he uncle wife second sister tell me he use to hide he homework so nobody could copy. That’s how yuh know he capable of tiefing.”
And is not just dem who know him. Is dem who know somebody who know somebody who see something suspicious by the market 12 years ago that now confirm de accusation like gospel truth.
Dem boys seh in Guyana, soon as somebody name call, all kinda Sunday School teacher, old classmate, hairdresser and ex-neighbour suddenly got revelation. “I always had a bad feeling,” one lady seh, who only meet de man once when he beg she fuh change $500 at a shop.
And leh we talk bout dem conspiracy theorist. Dem believe everything except de truth. If you seh de man innocent and got proof, dem seh is doctored. If you show CCTV footage, dem seh is AI. If you bring angel from heaven to defend de man, dem want to know who send de angel and if de angel ever attend Freedom House brunch.
But wait till de story buss and de accusation prove false. Yuh think dem gon apologize? Nah, nah! Dem does double down. “He might be innocent in that case, but yuh ain’t hear bout de story from 1996? Me auntie seh he use to watch people funny in de post office. Something wrong wid he.”
Dem boys seh this is Guyana—land of jumbie, mango tree witness, and big big story wid li’l bit fact. Everybody is Sherlock Holmes when dem don’t like you. And even when de mystery solve, de mystery continue.
Keep yuh name clean and yuh mouth shut, because once de story start, only God and maybe CNN could clear yuh name.
