Tattoo artist remanded for stealing from YMCA Daycare
Kaieteur News- A 38-year-old tattoo artist was on Friday remanded to prison for allegedly stealing over $200,000 in items from a daycare.
Nicholas Choy of Lot 168 Robb Street, Georgetown appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty to answer to a Break and Enter and Larceny charges.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges which alleged that on May 12, 2025 at Lot 106 Croal Street, Georgetown, he broke into the YMCA Daycare and pre-school and stole one microwave valued $37,000, one black industrial fan valued $25,000, three double bed mattress valued $54,000, one black water dispenser valued $25,000, one roll of garbage bags valued $1,200, one JBL roll speaker valued $31,000, one small fan valued $9,000, one garbage bin valued $19,000 and a quantity of school supplies valued $77,000; totaling $277,200.
Choy told the court that he did not break into the daycare. “I come home from work and I saw a junky with a garbage bin and I say hay wa you get deh and he drop de bin and run. When I went to see what went inside the police roll up and arrest me. I is ah business man ma’am I is do tattoo ma’am,” the accused said.
The accused told the court that he was found with the garbage bin because he took it from the vagrant to see what was in it.
“The junky dropped the bin when I said hey wa u get deh,” Choy said.
Meanwhile, the prosecution objected to bail stating that there is video evidence of Choy taking the items. According to the prosecution, Choy also took a bath in one of the daycare’s showers before escaping. Some of the stolen items were recovered in Choy’s garbage bin.
Further, Choy was previously charged for a similar offense.
Magistrate McGusty adjourned the matter to June 6, 2025.
