Kaieteur News- A 20-year-old man was on Thursday remanded to prison for the murder of Dexter France called ‘Chiney’.
Steve Williams also known ‘Short man’ of Khan Hill, Mabaruma, North West District, Region One appeared at the Bartica Magistrates’ Court where the murder charge was read to him.
Williams was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on May 11, 2025 at a gold mining campsite located in Wrong Turn Backdam, Puruni River, Region seven he allegedly murdered France.
He was remanded until July 10, 2025.
On Tuesday, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) issued a statement requesting assistance in properly identifying the now deceased. The body was subsequently identified by France’s brother. The GPF noted that the deceased is between 40 and 45-years-old and his last place of work was the Puruni River area, Region Seven.
On Friday, police said that France and Williams worked together and were reportedly involved in an argument, when Williams armed himself with a cutlass and chopped France in his chest.
On Wednesday May 14, 2025 a post-mortem examination was conducted on France’s body and his cause of death was determined to be the chop wound he received in his chest. The post-mortem examination was conducted by Dr. Nehaul Singh.
