Kaieteur News- The Guyana Police Force said on Wednesday that water samples from the Double Day Hotel swimming pool were collected and have been sent overseas for independent forensic analysis. It is the first time this information has been disclosed to the public, and lawyers for Adriana Younge said at a meeting earlier in the day, police could not say whether samples of the water were collected.
In addition to the water samples, last week police informed that they had uplifted DNA samples also from the owner of the hotel, as well as from Younge, and these were also sent overseas for testing.
In a statement giving an update of the meeting, police said Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Budhram, Deputy Commissioner McBean, and Superintendent Baird, Head of Office of Professional Responsibility met with Attorneys-at-Law Mr. Dexter Todd and Mr. Eusi Anderson, as well as relatives of the late Adriana Younge.
Noting that the meeting was held at the request of Dr. Todd, police said it was convened to address questions and concerns raised by the family. “The Police Force welcomed this engagement as an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to transparency, accountability, and diligent investigative work. Several questions were answered during the meeting, while others, due to the sensitive and evolving nature of the investigation, required further verification and were deferred for written response following consultation with the investigative team,” the police statement read.
According to the police, the meeting was conducted in a confidential setting, in good faith, and with the shared understanding that the primary goal was to maintain open lines of communication with the family through their legal representatives. At the meeting, the police said the attorneys were assured that the investigation into the tragic death of Adriana Younge is being pursued with the utmost seriousness and care.
Police said at the meeting, they clarified that: the investigation is ongoing, with all leads and evidence actively being pursued; water samples from the pool were collected and have been sent overseas for independent forensic analysis; oversight of the investigation is being maintained at the senior level to ensure thoroughness and impartiality and that any information not provided during the meeting was withheld only to safeguard the integrity of the investigation and avoid compromising its outcomes.
“The Guyana Police Force wishes to reassure the public that every measure is being taken to ensure a thorough, transparent, and accountable process. The Force remains steadfast in its duty to bring clarity and closure to this tragic situation, and we deeply appreciate the patience and understanding of the Younge family and the wider public as the investigation proceeds. The GPF remains committed to upholding public trust and delivering justice with integrity and Professionalism,” the statement concluded.
