Kaieteur News- Dem boys seh nowadays is not qualifications or experience that does cause damage in a business place, is attitude. Some of dem workers does come in fuh wuk wid a big smile and lil quiet voice during probation, but the minute de boss confirm dem, is like Jekyll and Hyde tek over. De same quiet girl who used to seh “Good morning, sir,” now watching de boss and sucking she teeth loud loud when he talk. And de man who used to open door now slamming it behind yuh!
One businessman seh he hire one young man who claim he had five years’ experience in customer service. Fuh de first month, de man was a model employee. Always early. Shirt tuck in. Saying “Yes boss” and “No problem.” By de second month, he deh late, pants dropping off he waist, and he telling customers “You gon get through when I ready.” One lady complain and he turn and ask she, “You feel is you paying me?”
Dem boys seh attitude come like cologne nowadays. It strong and overbearing. Is like some workers believe once dem get confirm, dem is de boss and you is de servant. One man even tell he manager, “You can’t talk to me so. I got rights!” But dem boys seh he forget one thing — de boss got rights too, including de right to fire yuh backside.
Another fella seh he hire a woman who used to mek nice tea and always smiling. Now de tea sour and de smile gone. She does spend more time on TikTok than she does on de company computer. And if yuh tell she anything, she start to bawl workplace harassment.
Dem boys seh when you hiring people nowadays, don’t only watch qualifications and experience. Ask dem former employers about them. Ask them neighbours about their attitude. Watch how dey behave when de cleaner pass or how dem treat dem own shoes. Because if dem got attitude like dem own the place, just remember: next week, dem might behave like yuh owe dem de building.
