…GDF, Police, and Western Tigers secure vital wins
Kaieteur Sports- Another weekend of action in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League saw Slingerz Football Club continue their perfect start to the season, with a clinical 2–0 win over Fruta Conquerors at the National Training Centre in Providence on Sunday evening.
The Vergenoegen-based club extended their winning streak to six games, maintaining their position at the top of the table with 18 points. Slingerz have now scored 32 goals while conceding just two; the most dominant record in the league so far.

After a goalless first half, Marcus Tudor, last season’s joint top scorer, broke the deadlock in the 76th minute. The Lindener latched onto a perfectly timed long pass from centre-back Romain Brackenridge, calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to give Slingerz a 1–0 lead.
In stoppage time, versatile defender Leo Lovell sealed the win with a composed finish after pouncing on a loose ball inside the box.
Fruta Conquerors had lost possession through Bryan Wharton, allowing Lovell to capitalize and power his shot beyond the reach of the defenders.
Slingerz FC will face Ann’s Grove United this Saturday as they look to extend their lead at the top, with three matches remaining in the first round of the league.
Ann’s Grove head into that clash on the back of a heavy 8–0 defeat to defending champions GDF.
The Army team produced a dominant display, with goals from Ian Dooker (8′, 45′), Shemar Scott (20′, 88′), Keron Spencer (33′), Chris Macey (45+’), Malcolm Miggins (60′), and Jeffery Pereira (64′). It marked GDF’s third win of the season, adding to their two defeats and a draw.
Meanwhile, Ann’s Grove suffered their fourth loss in seven games, with their only win coming against Mainstay Goldstar. They also recorded two draws.
The Guyana Police Force also collected three points, thanks to a brace from their in-form striker Neron Barrow, who scored in the 6th and 58th minutes to secure a 2–0 victory over Den Amstel.
The win takes Coach Wayne Dover’s side to 14 points from seven matches, keeping them in second place behind Slingerz.
On Saturday, Western Tigers handed Monedderlust FC their fourth defeat of the campaign with a 2–1 win.
Goals from Simeon Moore (9′) and Samuel Garnett (30′) gave Western Tigers the edge, while Ryan Rose netted a consolation for Monedderlust in the 65th minute.
Western Tigers now sit on 13 points, with four wins, one loss, and one draw.
Coach Charles Pollard’s side will return to action this Saturday, opening a double-header at 6:30 pm against struggling Mainstay Goldstar.

Action between Western Tigers and Monedderlust FC in the GFF Elite League. Western Tigers won 2 – 1.
The Essequibo-based side has endured a torrid campaign, conceding a staggering 41 goals in six matches, making them the league’s bottom team.
Looking ahead to Sunday, May 11, Fruta Conquerors will face Den Amstel at 6:30 pm, followed by a clash between GDF and Santos at 9:00 pm.
All matches will take place at the GFF National Training Centre in Providence.
