This May Day! Workers stand united for a better world!

May Day celebrates workers’ solidarity, struggle, and commitment to building a better world for all.

But the challenges facing workers are intensifying—from the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and attacks on trade union rights to the climate emergency and the erosion of public services—the need for a powerful, united working-class movement has never been greater.

Across the globe, trade unions are rising to demand decent work, secure jobs, fair wages, and bold climate action. Simultaneously, they are pushing back against the growing tide of authoritarianism, corporate greed, and far-right division. Today’s converging crises make that fight more urgent than ever. As billionaires accumulate wealth, democracy faces an increasing threat.

This May Day, we aim to convey a clear message: we are organised, united, and determined to build a brighter tomorrow. Across borders and industries, we stand together fighting for democracy, climate justice, safe work, and dignity for all.

Focus on key priorities such as technology, occupational safety, supply chain accountability, sustainability, equality, and fundamental labour rights. Here’s a summarised breakdown:

1. Future of work

The CCWU emphasises the need for:

· Collective bargaining regarding new technologies such as AI and digital platforms aims to ensure fair and safe integration into the workplace.

· Transparent management of workers’ data and rights.

· Funding for lifelong learning, retraining, and upskilling as workers adjust to technological changes.

· Regulation aligns with the decent work principle in the gig economy.

2. Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)

The CCWU advocates for:

· Governments and employers should establish robust OSH policies and enhance global working conditions.

· OSH policies should be inclusive, addressing both physical and mental health.

· Employers should involve workers in policy design and ensure safe work commutes.

3. Supply Chain Accountability

CCWU aims to:

· Hold multinational companies accountable for labour rights and safety throughout supply chains.

· Promote legislation for better oversight and greater union involvement in enforcing standards.

· Formulate a global strategy to enhance labour conditions in the transport and e-commerce sectors.

4. Sustainable Transport

CCWU calls for:

· Commitment to a zero-carbon transportation industry by 2050 with worker-centred just transitions.

· Global investments in climate-resilient transportation infrastructure.

· Cooperate with CCWU to develop and fund a just transition plan.

5. Equality

The CCWU’s demands focus on:

· Policies addressing workplace discrimination and enhancing gender equality among young workers.

· Ratification of the ILO Convention (C190) that safeguards women and minority associations.

· Supporting trade union activism to promote equality and inclusiveness.

6. Fundamental Rights

The CCWU stresses:

· Respect for rights such as freedom of association, collective bargaining, and the right to strike.

· Campaign to safeguard democracy and workers’ rights globally.

· Supporting unions in litigation, law reform, and leveraging international frameworks such as the ILO.
