Kaieteur News- The Ministry of Education on Tuesday announced that the marking of the 2025 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) papers, which is being conducted by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), started on Monday.
In a Facebook post, the ministry stated that Education Minister Priya Manickchand, on Monday, visited one of the main examination marking centres where she engaged with the CXC officers, their markers and other staff.

“There, she observed the process firsthand. During her visit, she underscored the importance of accuracy, strict adherence to the marking scheme, and maintaining the integrity of the assessment. She also reaffirmed her confidence in the system and those entrusted with this critical task,” the ministry reported.
Approximately 342 markers from across all education districts are currently involved in marking and evaluating scripts for 15,813 pupils who wrote this year’s NGSA.
Minister Manickchand disclosed that the examination results are expected to be released on or before June 26th, 2025.
The NGSA, which was written on April 16 and 17, assesses the capabilities of each student in four subject areas: Mathematics, English, Science and Social Studies.
After the papers are marked and the scores tallied, the number of points accumulated will determine which school the student will be placed in to receive their secondary education.
It was reported that the government, through the education ministry, has been constructing a number of new secondary schools across the country, creating more access for students to receive their secondary education.
At the recent launch of the National STEAM Fair, Minister Manickchand announced that by September this year, 20 new secondary schools will be opened across the country. Among these schools are the new Christ Church Secondary School and St. Mary’s, which will become the new Brickdam Secondary, and Tuschen Secondary School.
According to the minister, with these schools coming on board, it is expected that the country will achieve its goal of universal secondary education by mid-2026.
