Kaieteur News- A 53-year-old man died on Tuesday morning when his electric motorcycle collided with a car on Princess Elizabeth Road in New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Dead is Leyland Reece, who resided at Lot 22 Smythfield, New Amsterdam. Police said the accident occurred at 06:15h. The accident involved 37-year-old Andrew King, who was the driver of a motor car with registration number #PAB 2622 and Reece, who was the rider of an electric cycle.
While reports did not indicate how the accident occurred, it was stated that the cyclist received injuries about his body and was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital by public-spirited citizens in an unconscious condition.
Reece was examined by a doctor on duty, who treated him but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. His body is remains at the said hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. “A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver, but no trace of alcohol was found. The car driver is presently in custody, assisting with the investigation,” police said in the report.
