-Slingerz FC dominate GFF Elite League points table
Kaieteur Sports- In one of the most heated and pivotal matches of the first round in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League, defending champions Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) played out a thrilling 2–2 draw on Sunday evening at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Earlier that night, Western Tigers kept their title hopes alive with a commanding 4–2 victory over Ann’s Grove United.

Slingerz FC’s flanked by players showing solidarity after scoring the opening goal in his side’s 5 – 0 win over Den Amstel this weekend.
GDF, three-time champions and chasing a third consecutive Elite League title, have struggled to find their footing this season.
Heading into Sunday’s encounter, they had registered two wins and two losses in their opening four matches.
Meanwhile, Wayne Dover’s GPF side looked poised to challenge for their first-ever National League title, coming into the clash with three wins, one draw, and a single loss from their first five outings.
Despite heavy rainfall throughout the night, passionate fans braved the weather to witness a match filled with drama and excitement.
Mark McGarrell opened the scoring for Police in the 16th minute, but GDF quickly responded through Stephen McDonald, who found the back of the net seven minutes later to level the match at 1–1.
The sides went into halftime deadlocked, but early in the second half, Neron Barrow, last season’s joint top-scorer, restored the Police lead with a tidy finish in the 52nd minute.
However, with GPF FC seemingly in control despite the torrential conditions, Shemar Scott rescued a point for GDF with a crucial equalizer in the 74th minute.

Nerron Borrow, last season’s joint top scorer, has been critical in the GPF FC’s success this season.
In the evening’s opening fixture, Western Tigers roared to a 4–2 win over Ann’s Grove United, led by a brace from national captain Daniel Wilson (55’, 90+1’).
Simeon “Shines” Moore (59’) and Tyric McAllister (69’) also got on the scoresheet for Western Tigers.
Ann’s Grove, who managed early goals through Yohance Francis (4’) and Jadon Vangronigen (46’), have found wins hard to come by this season, with their only victory so far coming against bottom-placed Mainstay Goldstars.
Their record now stands at one win, two draws, and three losses.
Meanwhile, following the weekend’s action, Slingerz FC continue to set the pace at the top of the GFF Elite League standings.
The Vergenoegen-based outfit, coached by former Golden Jaguars Head Coach, Jamaal Shabazz, have been in scintillating form, racking up five straight wins; a 4–1 triumph over Monedderlust FC, a staggering 17–0 demolition of Mainstay Goldstars, a hard-fought 1–0 win over GPF, a 3–1 victory against Western Tigers, and a 5–0 rout of West Side rivals Den Amstel FC.
Slingerz FC have scored an impressive 28 goals while conceding just two, collecting a maximum 15 points from their unbeaten run.
Police FC sit second on 11 points following their draw with GDF, while Santos occupy third place with 10 points, edging Western Tigers (also on 10 points) by virtue of superior goal difference.
Monedderlust (9 points), GDF (7 points), Den Amstel (7 points), Fruta Conquerors (5 points), and Ann’s Grove (5 points) round out the table.
Mainstay Goldstars remain rooted to the bottom, still searching for their first win, having conceded a staggering 44 goals while scoring just three.
