Dear Editor,
The drama surrounding the tragic death of an industrious child has left us all wondering what’s next. In its wake the saga has destroyed the lives of several persons. Some as a direct consequence of the situation while others of their own making since they were either active participants or were complicit in the event.
The parents, relatives and friends of the deceased were among the direct victims of this event. Then the young man Orlando had his career being placed under extreme scrutiny so much so that we can infer that his career as a tradesman is almost over. The police personnel who misinformed the parents, those who also prevented a physical search of the premises and those who are alleged to have been active participants have all lost credibility and are destined for the garbage bin of history. Lastly, our government and president have taken a humungous hit in this election year from which they cannot recover.
Even if the Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Operations and the Divisional Commander Region 3 are sent home, this will not easily placate the aggrieved persons. The carnage surfacing from this event is extremely huge. Our brethren in Caricom and members of our diaspora will weigh down heavily on the government and its executives. They have all lost and they have an extremely great task in the rebuilding of confidence as they go forward.
This nation will take a long time to heal and I am hoping that the government facilitates this healing and salvage whatever little respect persons have for them.
Regards.
Cyril Walker
