Crucial autopsy set for today
…imaging tests to be performed in presence of independent specialists
Kaieteur news- The highly anticipated Post Mortem Examination (PME) on the body of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge who was found dead on Thursday at the Double Day Hotel, Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo will be conducted today at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

This was confirmed by the family’s Attorney-at-Law, Darren Wade on Sunday. In an invited comment, he told this newspaper that a time has not yet been confirmed for the autopsy since a number of tests requested by the international pathologists will first be completed. Dr. Gary Collins, Chief Medical Examiner of Delaware, United States of America and Dr. Glenn Rudner of Mount Sinai Hospital will be present during the child’s autopsy.
The parents of Adrianna Younge previously told Kaieteur News that they do not have any objections to Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul, of Barbados, who was appointed by the government to perform the PME. They however requested the presence of Dr. Collins to observe the process which the state did not object to. Ahead of the autopsy, Dr. Collins had requested a full X-ray of the child’s body, including a skeletal examination to determine whether she suffered any fractures. Additionally, the specialist ordered a full-body CT scan to assess for other injuries.
Wade, however noted, that the state has opted for these examinations to be performed in the presence of the specialist, requested by the family. In response to a question on the time of the autopsy, the lawyer explained, “Those logistics haven’t been sorted out because initially we had planned, as you are aware Dr. Collins had made certain requests in relation to having certain tests done before hand and certain standard operating procedures that should have been done days ago in relation to the scanning and the X-ray have not been done but the state prefers to have it done while he is here and tomorrow (today) maybe a rush, we don’t know logistically how that’s going to work out…”
The dead body of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge was discovered in the pool of the Double Day Hotel on Thursday.
On Saturday, President Irfaan Ali in a meeting with relatives assured that there would be full transparency of the autopsy. He said, “I’ve asked the Police to make sure everything is videoed, no missteps, everything is videoed, everything is observed as much witnesses the family wants is there that is medically permissible, all of that and all their requests in terms of this post mortem to be honoured.”
The pathology team
Dr. Paul, who is an international forensic pathologist and will conduct the PME, is a highly experienced forensic pathologist with over 23 years in the field. He currently serves as Consultant Forensic Pathologist at the Forensic Sciences Centre under the Office of the Attorney General in Barbados, a position he has held since 2021.
Dr. Collins was appointed Delaware’s Chief Medical Examiner in September 2014 and according to the Delaware Government’s website worked extensively in the field of forensic science. He has performed thousands of autopsies certifying the manner and cause of death in more than 4,000 cases. Dr. Collins also has experience in a variety of forensic, medical, and public health-related cases.
He is a graduate of the University of West Indies, where he completed his pathology residency at the University of South Florida and his forensic pathology residency at the Drexel University College of Medicine. He is also board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and forensic pathology. Meanwhile, according to Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. Rudner’s specialty is in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology and he studied at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Duke University Medical Center, Tulane Medical Center, Fellowship, Pathology, Forensic Pathology, Office of Graduate Medical Education and Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.
