Collapse of Public Trust in the Guyana Police Force — Heads Must Roll!

The tragic and heart-wrenching death of little Adrianna Younge has exposed, in the most painful and unforgivable way, the complete collapse of credibility, competence, and moral responsibility within the Guyana Police Force.
The Force LIED to the people of Guyana.
In an official statement, the Police claimed that, “The Command Centre in Region #3 was contacted and viewed footage showed that Adrianna entered a red and black Raum motor car bearing registration number PSS 4684, which drove off in an eastern direction heading towards Vreed-en-Hoop.”
Today, we know this was a complete fabrication. No such footage exists, and the Force has been unable — or more accurately, unwilling — to produce it.
While the Police peddled falsehoods, the body of that innocent child remained inside the hotel. Citizens, in their outrage and desperation, had to force their way in to uncover the truth. They did the work that the Police were too negligent, too compromised, or too corrupt to do.
This is not a simple “error” or “misjudgment.”
This is a betrayal of public trust at the highest order.
Instead of accountability, what have we seen?
A shameless, insulting transfer of the Regional Commander, a slap in the face to every grieving Guyanese. No charges. No suspensions. No independent investigation. No resignations. No apology.
The silence of Commissioner Clifton Hicken is deafening. It is cowardly. It is complicit. His refusal to speak to the nation during this time of crisis has worsened the collapse of confidence in the Force.
President Irfaan Ali, in appointing such a clearly unfit Commissioner, has shown reckless disregard for the security and dignity of the Guyanese people.
Let it be clear: The Guyana Police Force, in its current form, cannot be trusted.
Trust must be rebuilt, not with empty words, but with decisive action.
I therefore call, without apology or hesitation, for:
- The immediate resignation or dismissal of Commissioner Clifton Hicken.
- The suspension and investigation of all officers responsible for misleading the public.
- An independent, international inquiry into the actions and inactions of the Police during this tragedy.
- A complete reform of the leadership structures of the Guyana Police Force.
If heads do not roll, the message will be clear. In Guyana, incompetence and lies are not punished, they are protected.
Adrianna Younge deserved better.
The people of Guyana demand better.
Justice must be served, not just for her, but for every Guyanese who expects and deserves a Police Force that protects, not deceives.
