Kaieteur News- Several items were stolen from the Ministry of Labour’s Berbice branch earlier this week.
According to a police report issued on Friday, the break-in occurred between 15:30 hrs. on Tuesday and 07:30 hrs. on Wednesday at the ministry’s two-storey concrete building located at Lot 228 Grant Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
The stolen items include one desktop computer, a backup battery, and a water pump.
Police stated that the building is secured by wooden doors with external locks, as well as internally secured glass. A 52-year-old cleaner, who is responsible for opening and securing the premises, told police that she locked up the building around 15:30 hrs. on Tuesday.
“Upon returning at 07:30 hrs. on April 23, she discovered the western door and a window open. She immediately raised an alarm, and the incident was reported to the police,” the report said.
Police ranks visited the scene and confirmed that the mentioned items were indeed missing. CCTV footage from the surrounding area has been retrieved and is currently under review.
Investigations are ongoing.
