Kaieteur News- A 35-year-old vendor was placed on $75,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to answer to three charges.
The defendant, George Chase of Lot 47 Newtown Kitty, Georgetown, was charged with allegedly threatening his customer Leon Williams on January 31, 2025, at London Street, Georgetown. He was also charged with allegedly using abusive and threatening language toward Williams on the same day at the said address.
Chase pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him by Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
The prosecution objected to bail since the defendant had threatened to kill Williams, causing him to fear for his life. They added that a WhatsApp audio recording was made with the threats.
Williams told the court that he would regularly support Chase’s business, and they only come in contact when he goes to the stall.
Magistrate Azore released Chase on $25,000 bail for each of the three charges, totalling $75,000. The matter was adjourned until May 21, 2025.
