…GDF FC cruise to ease win against Conquerors
Kaieteur Sports- Season VII of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League returned to the National Training Centre (NTC) on Sunday evening with commanding performances from Santos Football Club and the Guyana Defence Force FC (GDF), both securing three valuable points in the latest weekend fixtures.
In the feature match, GDF FC earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Fruta Conquerors FC, thanks to late goals from Amos Ramsay and Abumchi Opara. After a measured and controlled first half, Ramsay opened the scoring just before the break in the 45th minute, giving the defending champions a slender lead. Fruta Conquerors pushed for an equalizer in the second half but were denied by GDF’s resilient defense. Opara sealed the result in the 84th minute with a well-placed strike, dashing any hopes of a Fruta comeback and lifting GDF to six points from two games.
Earlier in the evening, Santos FC treated fans to a scintillating performance, led by striker Ravi Coates who delivered a hat-trick in a 3-0 dismantling of Mainstay Goldstars FC. Coates opened his account in the 18th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to give Santos an early lead. He doubled the advantage in the 35th with a thunderous volley, and just three minutes into the second half, completed his hat-trick with another clinical finish to put the game beyond Mainstay’s reach.
The result marked a dominant showing for Santos, who looked composed and creative throughout the one-sided encounter, much to the delight of the vocal crowd.
In post-match comments, GDF FC’s head coach acknowledged that his side is still building momentum. “I thought this evening the players worked very hard and tried to implement what we’ve been drilling over the past few weeks,” he said. “There are very good signs, but it’s still a work in progress. Hopefully in the next game, we can improve and take it step by step.”
Meanwhile, in Saturday’s fixture held in Berbice, the Guyana Police Force FC secured an emphatic 4-0 win over Monedderlust FC, with standout performances from Nicholas McArthur and Neron Barrow, who combined to dismantle the opposition’s defense.
The GFF Elite League continues to showcase the best of local football talent, supported by sponsors such as NAMILCO, Turbo Energy Drink, Blue Water Shipping, and Guyana Beverage Inc.
