Kaieteur News- A 44-year-old Chinese national on Wednesday night was beaten with a gun and robbed by five masked bandits at Blankenburg, Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
The Chinese national has been identified as Haimin Huang. The incident occurred at 23:30h Wednesday. Police reported that the victim resides with his parents, brother and six other relatives. On the day of the incident, the victim and his family reportedly secured their supermarket and he decided to relax in a hammock which is located at the back veranda.
The Chinese national reported to the ranks that ten minutes later, he was awoken by a strange noise. Upon checking, he observed five males wearing dark-coloured clothing with their faces covered. “Two of the suspects were armed with firearms while one was armed with a black Rambo knife. The armed suspects then started to hit the victim about his body with their firearm causing him to receive injuries to his forehead,” police said in the report.
The bandits relieved him of one Huawei phone valued $200,000 and a SIM card. Further, as the bandits continued to beat the victim with the gun, he began to shout and in the process, the suspects ran away and made good their escape in an unknown direction. Huang was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was treated and sent away. The matter was reported to police. Several persons in the area were questioned but no useful information was received, police said. The scene was checked for anything of evidential value but none was found. The area was canvassed for Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and several were seen affixed to the building. Same is yet to be viewed. The suspects are still on the run.
