Kaieteur News- The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) is warning the public against engaging in illegal gold trading.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the ministry reminded that only individuals or entities with a valid gold dealer’s licence from the Guyana Gold Board (GGB), or a trader’s licence from the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), are authorized to purchase gold in Guyana.
The ministry noted that applying for a new licence or renewing an existing one does not give applicants legal permission to conduct gold trading activities. It said all transactions must be put on hold until an official licence is granted.
Notably, anyone found buying gold without the proper documentation will be prosecuted under Guyana’s laws.
