Mai is among the oldest surviving members of Indo-Guyanese community whose ancestors came to Guyana from India in the early 20th century.
Born in 1921, Mai, despite her age is alert and active and quoted her vegetarian diet as a secret of her health. She shared that Baingan Chokha and Roti with fried Okra are among her favorite dishes.
High Commissioner thanked her for her melodious rendition of a Bhajan, which she sent to Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modiji when he had visited Guyana a few months back. Mai continues her daily chores and maintains an active routine, an inspiration for us all. (Source: India in Guyana)
