-Elite League Season VII doubleheader set for Sunday
Kaieteur News- After a hard-fought weekend, the GFF Elite League Season VII returns to the National Training Centre (NTC) for an exciting slate of matches today, Friday and Sunday. As the competition heats up, teams will be looking to climb the table and solidify their positions in the 2025 championship.
In a recap of last weekend’s action, Monedderlust FC was the only team to salvage a win, securing their first win of the season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Santos FC in Berbice. Meanwhile, the doubleheader at NTC saw Fruta Conquerors FC and Western Tigers FC, along with Den Amstel FC and Ann’s Grove United FC, playing to stalemates.
The current standings see Ann’s Grove, Western Tigers, and Den Amstel FC leading the table with four points each. Ann’s Grove has been the busiest team so far, having played three matches, securing a win, a loss, and a draw. Slingerz FC remain perfect with three points from their lone match, while Guyana Police Force FC, Santos FC, and Monedderlust FC all sit with three points. Defending champions Guyana Defence Force FC and Mainstay Goldstar FC have yet to make their mark, both with zero point while Fruta Conquerors manage only one point from two matches.
The weekend’s action kicks off with two crucial matchups tonight at NTC; first up, we’ll see Slingerz FC versus Mainstay Goldstar FC at 6:30 PM. Slingerz will be aiming to maintain their winning start as they take on a struggling Mainstay Goldstar FC. With two consecutive losses, Mainstay Goldstar FC needs to find a winning formula to avoid falling further behind in the standings.
In the other match this evening, Santos FC will tackle Guyana Police Force FC, kickoff time 9:00 PM. Santos FC however, coming off a disappointing defeat, will look to rebound against GPF FC. Both teams sit on three points, making this a critical matchup for their season aspirations.
Sunday’s exciting doubleheader will feature Fruta Conquerors FC taking on Ann’s Grove United FC in the first match while Season Six champions Guyana Defence Force FC have yet to register a win and will be looking to bounce back against Monedderlust FC, fresh off a morale-boosting victory over Santos, will be determined to cause another upset.
With teams jockeying for position, this weekend’s matchups promise riveting action. Fans are encouraged to come out and support their favorite clubs as the best in Guyana football battle for glory.
