Dear Editor
I wish to publicly compliment and thank Former President Donald Ramotar for his excellent review of the contribution Cuba has made to the needy people and nations in every corner of the globe, (Stabroek News, March 6, 2025). Therefore, this renewed attack on the Government and people of Cuba by the most powerful State in the world, is unfortunate and unnecessary.
History may very well show that the shifting of traditional allegiances in the International Environment may have a long-term beneficial effect on the body of politics in our World. We must know that certain incidents and attitudes provide the fertilizer for the growth of new conditions. After the attack of the US neighbour base at Pearl Harbour by Japan, there was change; after the attack by Germany in Stalingrad there was change; after the atomic bomb, dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, there was change and the horrors of Vietnam, Korea and the missile crisis, there was change. After the missile crisis, there was change.
However, as Donald Ramotar points out in his letter, this normal assault against Cuba is unfortunate and unnecessary. Guyanese must not forget that at no cost to us, Cuba trained many of our young people to become professionals particularly in the field of medicine and as such, we must be grateful to Cuba and ask big brother to ease the pressure from the valiant, brave and generous people of Cuba.
Regards
Hamilton Green
