Dear Editor
Congratulations to the New Amsterdam Secondary School for being recognized by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) as a model secondary institution for Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ).
This speaks to the hard work by the management of the school with the support of the Ministry of Education. The need for technical and vocational education connot be overemphasized especially at this time of rapid economic and technological advances in the country.
The education sector has seen significant improvements over the past years thanks to greater access to secondary education and enhanced delivery of quality education throughout the country. It is not surprising therefore that Guyanese students are now topping the Caribbean in a number of subject areas, a significant turnaround from the days when our students were underperforming due to severe underfunding of the education sector. In this regard, credit must be given to the PPP/C administration for making education a top national priority.
Sincerely
Hydar Ally
