I awake on Wednesday, 6th December to Kaieteur News online “BREAKING NEWS: Maduro makes Essequibo new state of Venezuela.” One day later, I read “GDF CHOPPER MISSING NEAR VENEZUELA BORDER WITH 7 SOLDIERS ON BOARD.” As we solicit help from the international community, let’s not fail to invoke Divine intervention!
I am a firm believer in God and His power! The God about whom it is recorded: “Praise be to the name of God forever and ever; wisdom and power are His. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others…” Daniel 2:20-21.
God is a God of justice! If we reject Him and become a law to ourselves, we soon find out that HE REIGNS! This God of justice will hear us if, as a people, we take heed to His word “… will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Guyana is no military match for Venezuela, but neither was David for Goliath! Because little David’s confidence was in the Almighty, he could boldly declare: “… Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
1 Samuel 17:26. I challenge the leadership of this country, and indeed all of us – ONE GUYANA – at this blessed Christmas season when Jesus came to earth to bring “…peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2:14, to humble ourselves before God and unite, and watch Him do wonders! God said of a pagan people, coming together to build a tower: “If as one people speaking the same language, they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Genesis 11:6.
David, now King, having proved God over and over again, including his victory over the giant Goliath when he was a mere lad, could boldly declare in Psalm 20:7-9: “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. Lord, give victory to the king! Answer us when we call.”
Sincerely,
Claudia Heywood
