Imagine I was born an Essequibian and I could speak good, good English,
Now, deh threatening to neutralize we as Venezuelans, and we gat to learn Spanish
Well teacher Patsy gon gat to beat me, till she fed-up and miss
Because dis controversy nah gon end like dis
I hear they deh on de border wid big…big machine guns and powerful army boats,
Even galvanizing international support to claim Essequibo and its ports.
We have lived in peace, love and unity all de time
Knowing dat our boundaries were legalized since 1899
But I… know and you… know dat Essequibo is we own!
And nobody, not even VP Delcy gon tek away we plantains, cassava, mushroom leaves or even we sucker trees…
So, I plead with all Guyanese, let us stand up as a people, united and free!
Strong, proud and ready to defend our sovereignty
Essequibo belong to we and with one voice of love and unity
Enjoying every inch of our precious air, land and vast seas…
No…no… no…Margarita! Essequibo will not be yours tomorrow,
Not even if de message came from the voice of President Maduro
Because we gon tell him until he accept and let it be known…
Dat Essequibo is nothing else but… we… own!
Elroy Stephney

Hard Truths by GHK Lall (Kaieteur News) – Governments govern. Leaders lead. Media reports on governance, leadership. People pronounce on the quality of both. I do. Anand Persaud did.
