Dear Editor,
I write to salute your newspaper for its fair, balanced, unbiased, and fearless journalism. Your paper is unique for publishing views that no other dares to thread, exposing wrongdoing. I am impressed with your impactful reporting and coverage and commentary.
I traveled the world and read countless English medium newspapers almost on a daily basis. It is rare to come across a paper that reports multiple sides of an issue and fair commentaries reflecting the varied sides of an issue. It is even rarer for a publication to carry views or opinions of known detractors (those who tend to be critical of a publication). Yet KN carries opinions of supporters and detractors, those with a pro and those with an anti-government agenda. No other paper tolerates consistent detractors, and it is rare in Guyana for papers to allow a right to reply.
I read anti- and pro-Exxon features and commentaries and reporting on many issues. I read attacks on or critiques of publisher Glenn Lall. I read articles critical of as well as those praiseworthy of politicians from both sides. Ditto on individuals and organizations! I read articles that gave fair and thorough coverage and those based on comprehensive analysis. And I came across articles with fearless reporting that land newspapers in libel suits. In spite of its tolerance and laissez faire or liberal attitude on its role in society, KN was the subject of many lawsuits to silence it for exposing fraud, corruption, and wrongdoing.
Your paper stands apart from others for publishing views that reflect multiple sides of a story. It is courageous of you for the kind of questions you pose in several. I thank KN for empowering readers and letter writers for exposing what it perceives to be truth without malice. It is adhering to the role of media and journalism in an open, democratic society. Thank you for not allowing libels to silence views! Your journalism has helped to hold government, institutions, businesses, and people accountable.
Yours truly,
Vishnu Bisram
