Kaieteur News – The Guyana Police Force said on Wednesday that it has issued a notice of intended prosecution to one of its ranks attached to the Beterverwagting Police Station after he reversed over a 61-year-old woman at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Luckily the woman identified as Kamlawattie Singh, of Mon Repos did not sustain life-threatening injuries. The policeman reversed over her around 06:00hrs Wednesday with the Force’s patrol pick-up while leaving a fire scene in the area.
Security cameras mounted on a nearby building captured the moment. Singh was walking along the main access road at Mon Repos when the reversing pick-up knocked her down behind. The vehicle did not stop and continued to reverse over the woman dragging her in the process. It could have been worse if some had not alerted the police officers inside the vehicle. A man was seen running towards the vehicle and signaling the occupants to stop.
Police said that the ranks in the vehicle picked her up in a conscious state and transported her with the same pick-up to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). She was treated for her injuries and later discharged.
