Kaieteur Sports – Guyana’s hopes for a boxing medal at the Pan Am Games have been extended by another four years following Keevin Allicock’s elimination in the Men’s 57kg quarter-finals.
Allicock was the only Guyanese boxer out of the country’s four participants in Santiago, Chile, to advance beyond the round-of-16.
However, American Jahmal Harvey dashed Guyana’s aspirations of at least replicating Clive Atwell’s 2007 bronze medal in Brazil.
Harvey convincingly claimed all three rounds on the judges’ scorecards, with the exception of the Estonian judge, Jakov Peterson, who awarded Allicock a slight edge in round two.

Guyana’s Keevin Allicock connects a left jab to American Jahmal Harvey during their Men’s 57kg quarterfinals at the Pan Am Games.
“I don’t make excuses. I’ve been working with the therapist. I had an injury in my shoulder, but that’s no excuse, that was one of the things that was playing with me, even in the first fight. But that’s no excuse,” Allicock said following his bout.
Harvey is the 2021 featherweight World Champion, and according to Allicock, his bout against the American highlighted a few positives and negatives in his fighting style.
“I just have to get a little stronger, get a little bit more condition, even though my condition is pretty good because I kept attacking the fighter. Also, fighting with two plans, instead of one, and that’s it for me,” always confident Allicock said.
Meanwhile, Raekwon Noel’s time of eight minutes, 34.68 seconds in the men’s 800m freestyle secured him third place in Group B of the final, landing him in the 19th position out of 22 competitors.
Noel will conclude his Pan Am Games journey today by participating in the men’s 400m individual medley.
Aleka Persaud’s involvement in the women’s 50m freestyle, the focus will shift to athletes competing in Archery, Athletics, Table Tennis, and Esports.
Devin Persaud will take part in archery from November 1, while Emanuel Archibald (100m, 200m), Leslain Baird (Javelin), Keliza Smith (100m), Jasmine Abrams (100m), and Aliyah Abrams (400m) are set to light up the track from October 29.
From the same date, Shemar Britton and Chelsea will compete in singles and mixed doubles table tennis events.
When the Esport competition commences on October 30, Hemchandra Persaud will be the flag bearer for Guyana, aiming to secure the country’s first-ever medal at the Pan Am Games.
