Dear Editor,

I am a great enthusiast of history, of humanity, of nations, particularly of nations such as China and India. For their role in history, the sciences, international commerce, inventions, and natural medicines, that has helped and healed many in the world from time in memorial.

This is the season of celebrating the 74th Anniversary of the Freedom of China from Hands of Colonialism. China historically, like India was always invaded by powerful nations. One of the worst of invaders was Temujin better known as Genghis Khan. Many other Barbarians have always tried to attack, invade, and decimate China. Obviously, they do not want to attack China or any other nation for the sake of love or human development.

Attacks of nations are always on the wealthy and most successful countries. The aim is always to enslave, steal, destroy and demoralize. To take away their history and legacy and make the conquered nations subjects of nothingness for life. It was always done and as we can see is being done in the case of Russia trying to take the entire nation of Ukraine and the threats, we in Guyana are facing from Venezuela. To also want to steal, to plunder, to enslave, to hurt and to wipe out the pride of history of the attacked countries. I see India as another historical nation which also suffered similar curses of invasion. The other conquering nations of such include Persia, Turks, the Arabs, the Romans and the Greeks. However, in my opinion, the worst of the enslavers of the people they conquered were the Spanish. The first thing they did was, weaken the people, murdered their leaders then eliminated their history. History! Which is the cause of their national pride, they took away their names, changed the names of their countries and made them look as if they were nothing for example the Mayans and the Aztecs.

Everywhere the conquerors went, including their activities in Africa. Well, I must admit that all other European countries, the Germans, the Italians, the Dutch and the British all conquered and plundered for wealth for themselves. They like to say that they were helping but in reality, they were helping themselves.

Now, as it relates to China, China has one of the most magnificent histories. Magnificent, in the fact that they had to build the “Great Wall of China.” The Great Wall of China was not built to waste time, money or resources. It was built to keep out invaders and would be conquerors.

China created the first paper currency; China created and gave the world ‘noodles’, China created some of the most renowned non-invasive medicine (known as natural Chinese medicines). China is not known for invading other lands. China is known to be an international trading partner to this date, like the existence and reemergence of the Silk Road. China is always interested in business where they could make money and the people in whose country they invest in, will make money. China like any other country has a right to defend itself against foreign invaders (self-defense). It has an outstanding national security emphasis, as every great country would have and should have. On this 74^thAnniversary of the People’s Republic of China which has just been celebrated, I applaud them. I respect them for their honesty and their commitment to medicine and humanity. China is known to offer a great number of scholarships to Guyanese and other students around the world in various fields: Medicine, the Arts, the Sciences, Technology, Agriculture, scientific research, establishment of educational facilities etc. I find it is totally amazing to the human comprehension, the contributions that China has made and continues to make in providing scholarships and educational opportunities to numerous countries in the world.

I wish to recognize China for its medical brigades that it has been providing to Guyana over the last 30 years. They have provided during these 30 years, hundreds of thousands of medical attention; over one million consultations, thousands of medical operations inclusive of vital internal organs: eyes, etc. they are known for bringing in their own equipment and medication to conduct complicated surgeries in Guyana. Therefore, I wish to say to the Government and Peoples of China through Ambassador Guo Haiyan, thank you! Thank you! Thank you, for the 30 years of providing medical support and medical intervention to assist Guyana and Guyanese.

I must also note they have provided enormous grants for the building of roads, and highways. The Chinese are known for their hospitality and the sharing of their technical knowledge to developing countries and their supporting of countries that are in need. I say once again to the Government and People of China, thank you for your support over the decades. As we of Guyana are always grateful to all the countries in the world, that help and support our country and our people in whatever way they possibly could. We will always continue to support and appreciate the contributions that China makes to our country and to the world. The contributions of China are tremendous which serve to develop our economy, our peoples, and our national health and pride.
