Dear Editor,
Good Morning Jagdeo. There is probably not an article that I have written that you have not read.
Today I want to give you a reality check, share with you something which I don’t think your ego has allowed you to grasp: Your brand of communist/cake shop economics has long failed Guyanese. Now more than ever, Guyana, Guyanese, GUYSUCO, the banking system, virtually every economic sector has outgrown you and your ideas for development.
This is not even considering the national embarrassment of having you and your administration continue to agree to maintain the Exxon contract in its current form. An embarrassment it is Bharrat, because only you probably don’t know that Exxon executives are laughing at you behind your back on their way to the bank every day while Guyanese suffer under the yoke of your ignominy. You can only imagine what the other foreign investors think of you. You don’t want to know the words people are using to describe you and your government Bharrat? This is not a joke, Jagdeo. Guyanese really think you have imprudent to agree to keep the Exxon Contract as it is.
Not only on Exxon, there are numerous other deals and contracts like Bai Shan Lin, etc., plus the ones that you intend to sign under this new law which allows you to make contracts without bringing them to parliament. If that move isn’t the height of eye pass and disrespect for Guyanese, Jagdeo, I don’t know what is.
You demonstrated recently that your administration is now practicing what I can only describe as ‘wacko’ economics, pure nonsense and destruction. There is no way on God’s good earth your last two budgets could be justified, this last one more than double the 2020 budget, reducing the rest of the economy’s share of GDP to 37%. Absurd? That is the point, my friend. This is because your government’s budgets are exacerbating Guyana’s supply constraints in both the real sector and our foreign currency markets, absent the benefits of our oil revenues, it seems. Your administration continues to irrationally insist, against sound economic sense, that bigger government spending is always better. Well mister chief, you are seeing the results for yourself. I am quite aware that revenue from our oil wealth has changed Guyana’s financial dynamics. But then why is there this problem?
While I personally consider you a smart fellow, however, you seem unable to grasp the limitations of your economic philosophy. Your problem is because you think you know everything, you have stopped learning. Why is it that after all these years our poverty rate has jumped to over 40 percent? This might be unreal to you, but travel around Guyana, visit Sophia, Albouystown, all the regions and communities across Guyana.
Because of you, Bharrat, your glorified defunct communist/cake shop economics our national outcomes hold true for the conclusion of the politics of communism. Maintain the working class. Give them enough to live, to survive, and to come work tomorrow. Yes, in your eyes, by your measure of success, you have done well.
But you know communist economics has failed everywhere Jagdeo. It has failed here. Guyanese have nothing to hope for in you.
There is a path to economic development which allows EVERYONE to achieve financial and social prosperity and happiness. And it doesn’t reside with you.
Sincerely,
Craig Sylvester
