Dear Editor,
So our Hon. Minister of Home Affairs has stated that the public has confidence in the Guyana Police Force. Then our latest Hollywood star, acting Commissioner of Police in his address called upon ranks to give themselves applause.
Dear Editor, it is about time that persons in high office, as noted above, take their responsibility seriously.
I live in the south of Georgetown and mix with all sorts of people. Many crimes, big and petite and not reported to the Police, for one simple reason, they lack trust in the leadership and many police ranks. So what is the Minister and the Commissioner talking about?
Years ago, there is a calypso titled “Yuh hear lie, That is lie.” The tragedy in all this is that there are a number of Officers and ordinary ranks who are decent and wish to do a good job serving and protection, but we now have a Force with political eczema where an Officer who arrested a lawyer for merely telling a citizen what their rights are – This Officer, we are told, is now being elevated as Traffic Chief.
Lord, come and help us.
Eric Moseley, MS
