Keep St. Ann’s orphanage open!

Kaieteur News – The St. Ann’s Home which has provided a safe haven for girls for 172 years is said to be closing because of the shrinking number of Ursaline Sisters and the difficulty in obtaining good caregivers. Both are pitiful excuses. There are sufficient numbers of capable Catholic and non-Catholic Lay persons to assume the management of the home. Good caregivers have never been in short supply in Guyana.
It would be an indictment against the local Catholic diocese if it cannot find the human resources necessary to ensure that the doors of St. Ann’s remain open for girls seeking care and protection. Closing St. Ann’s Home makes a mockery of synodality and its concepts of participation and co-responsibility.
