Aug 09, 2023 Letters
Dear Sir,
Kaieteur News – There are some issues I really don’t know to whom I can send it to so I am writing this letter to vent some of our frustration.
Mr. Carlos Figueria, who is an amputee subject to wheelchair, receives disability funds from the government for which the family is grateful.
However, the distributing of the funds changed from every three months then to what should be every six months.
But his wife, Amanda Figueira, who has been collecting the funds on his behalf, kept enquiring about it since March 2023 only to be told it’s not ready, it’s not ready.
Yesterday, they called to advise that the funds finally arrived but they needed to talk to the client personally, which they did. He explained that he is in a wheelchair and he has problems now also with his speech from his illness.
They want him to go to Georgetown to verify his story.
Now there is no problem with them wanting to do that. I am sure there are lots of scams out there. However, if the wife explains that he cannot walk and has no one to assist,
why don’t they send out a team to the homes of some of the patients since it will cost them less. His wife has to help lift a 175-lb or more man from a wheelchair into a car and spend $10,000 to take him to Georgetown and home.
My problem is to imagine at elections’ time, the leading political party officials go house to house. Why can’t they do it now to assist those who are disabled?
