Woman drowns after falling off Leguan Stelling
Kaieteur News – Police in Region Three are investigating the death of 35-year-old Rabonie Sahoye of Lot 4, La-Bagatelle, Leguan Island who allegedly drowned after falling off the Leguan Stelling on Friday.

Sahoye’s relative told Kaieteur News on Monday that at about 17:00h the woman left her Leguan with her husband to take someone to Parika via their boat. The relative said that around 20:30hrs that Friday night they received a call informing them that Sahoye fell overboard at the Leguan stelling.
After receiving the news, relatives rushed to the stelling where a search began for Sahoye. The relative told Kaieteur News that Sahoye’s husband said that they had just returned from Parika when she (Sahoye) jumped onto the stelling to help tie the boat but reportedly slipped and fell into the water.
“He [Sayohe’s husband] said that she went on the stelling and she fell over the rail, he throw the boat rope for her to catch and she was standing and slip, that what he said,” the relative told Kaieteur News.
The search for Sahoye Friday night proved futile and relatives retired and resumed on Saturday when they were told that the woman’s body was seen at around 12:30hrs on at a beach on the island. Sahoye’s body was found by a resident in the area.
The body was then identified and taken to Ezekiel Funeral Home and Parlour. A post mortem examination is scheduled.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur News understands that up until her death, Sahoye was a janitor at the Leguan Secondary School, and resided with her husband and three children.
“The last interaction with her was that day. She was with us, and we were just begging her not to go and it was late, and her husband had called her and normally they go together, and her children begged her not go but she said that she going and will come back just now,” the relative recalled.
Sahoye was described as a very great and kind person. She was the eldest of her sisters and a mother figure to everyone. She leaves to mourn her two sons, daughter and other relatives.
