Digicel Schools Football Championships 2023…
Kaieteur Sports – Berbice Educational Institute began their reign as the Region Six Champion of the 2023 Digicel’s Schools Football Championship, which is organised by the Petra Organisation, when the tournament continued yesterday across two Regions.
At the Scott Ground in Region Six, Berbice Educational Institute joined the list of Regional Champions when they defeated Vryman’s Erven in the finale, 3 – 2. The combined efforts of Colisi Scipio, T’Jon Reid and Jomal Adams for BEI overshadowed that of the opposition.
Prior to the final, New Amsterdam collided with Tutorial Academy with the latter prevailing 4 – 3 on penalty kicks. At the regulation whistle, the teams were deadlocked at 1 – 1, which sent the showdown into a penalty shootout, where Tutorial secured third place.
In Georgetown, the double-header was billed for the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground as Marian Academy defeated St. Winifred’s 3 – 1. The other match featured Carmel and Charlestown, however, scores were not available up to press time.
Thus far, the Regional Champions of the 2023 edition are Santa Rosa (Region 1), Charity (Region 2), Leonora (Region 3), Region 4 (EC) – Buxton, Region 4 (EB) – Soesdyke, Mahaicony TI (Region 5), BEI (Region 6), Kato (Region 8), St. Ignatius (Region 9) and Mackenzie High (Region 10).
The only remaining zones left to crown a Regional Champion are Region Four (GT) and Region Seven.
