Dear Editor,
Guyanese residing in and out of the country are extremely disappointed in President Irfan Ali’s rag-tag handling of the minister’s case. This accusation presents the president with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate that he is the real president, and prove to the electorate that he is in charge and is a man of stature and decisiveness. Sadly, this has not happened, because he was instructed by the honcho and de facto president not to dismiss the alleged child predator who is his confidant.
This came on the heels of the disgraced Indian High Commissioner, Charrandass Persaud, who was recalled immediately for his vulgar behavior without any inquiry because as he said, he is not a member of the PPP However, the so-called president has not only called for an inquiry in the alleged rape case, but he allowed the alleged child predator to be released from duty on his own terms. This is the kind of inappropriate and unbecoming behavior that has emanated from the highest echelons of power at State House and the office of the President. It is shameful and regrettable. The so-called Head of State is running the affairs of the country under the directive of the honcho and de facto president, which is like running a cake or rum shop. The so-called President has failed a simple test of leadership on several occasions.
The entire country awaits the response from the Director of Public Prosecutions as to whether charges will be filed, and if so what type of charges. Many believed that the office of the DPP is compromised and as such they did not expect any serious charges to be filed against this alleged offender. It is known that the DPP office has bungled numerous cases, notably the trial of two murderers accused of killing the Leonora teenager Neesa Gopaul. Murder accused Jarvis Small is now a free man because the DPP office bungled the case. Abundant evidence exists of numerous (pre-meditated) murderers who were offered plea deals of the lesser charge of manslaughter which allowed them to have lesser sentences.
Many attorneys and law firms have refused to defend this shameful, offensive, and disgusting Minister, however, the sworn enemy of the honcho and de facto president who vowed never to award him the prestigious title of senior counsel took the case. As a result, the Amerindian community and many female organizations have condemned the attorney who they claimed should be ostracized from the Amerindian and Afro-Guyanese communities.
Yours truly,
Leyland Chitlall Roopnaraine
